Grayal Farr

Grayal Farr is an archeologicical consultant working throughout the Big Bend region. Grayal comes from a multigenerational Cracker family with roots in Gadsden County.  His family was made up of "natural history junkies", many of whom have contributed, in one way or another, to the stewardship of Florida’s fish and wildlife.

After receiving a Bachelor's degree in History from Florida State University, he served in the Army, primarily in special operations units, and retired with the rank of Major.  He then returned to Florida State University to receive a Master’s degree in Anthropology/Archaeology.

Grayal always knew that after retiring from the military he would return to north Florida to do  “anything outdoors and in Florida" and that he would "draw a line in the dirt someplace north of Orlando" and say, "This is as far as Miami comes!".  He's done both. The former mostly translates into biological survey and monitoring, and field archaeology. The "line in the dirt" has translated into volunteering for various local environmental groups. Besides assisting in the TAPP Campaign as an Outreach presenter, he chairs the Board of Directors of  the Apalachicola Riverkeeper and volunteers with Audubon and the Florida Native Plant Society.
